Sony Ericsson is putting all its knowledge on smartphones

Indeed, it’s a difficult time for Sony Ericsson, not long ago, the Japan Swedish group was on the verge of becoming the leader of mobile manufacturers. However, for several years, its market share rose from 8.2% to 5%  in a year and its finances share are considerably dropping.

The group has been victim of its absence in the segment of smartphones with touch screen. However, after having restructured its business, with thousands of job cuts, Sony Ericsson’s main objective now is to rebound.

The manufacturer claims to have revised its strategy from the  beginning to the end, because its products have proved to be “too geek, to male”. Thus a mobile phone that appeals, to men is not necessary attractive for women; nethertheless, a mobile that attracts women often seduces men. Thus, the design of its products has been modified “with a mixture of curves and straight lines” said Pierre Perron at the last Mobile World Congress, general manager of Sony Ericsson France.

In addition, the manufacturer prefers to launch its product with open OS and Android in particular that stands out as “a credible alternative”. The question is whether this reppositionnement and these changes will have a good impact on the group.

Operators haven’t enough 3GS iPhone!

Indeed, for several monts, French operators are feacing reeptitive shortages of 3GS iPhone because Apple receives too many requests.

During the presentation of Apple’s financial results for the second trimester 2010, Apple’s CFO Peter Oppen heimer confirmed that “the firm can’t cope with the demand for iPhone 3GS.

Moreover, according to AFP (Agence France ¨resse), French mobile opéraotrd are facing repetitive shortages and deliveries are insufficient. Thus, it is difficult for many potential customers to buy this smartphone in stores ir on websites.

Ina ddition, the three operators said that they are facing a shortage of iPhone 3GS. One one side, Orange said that deliveries in stores allow the firm to manage its business and deliveries just for tow or three days. On the other side, SFR and Bouygues Telecom, sales are lean.

I sum, operators and buyers have only one solution: to wait, because Apple is the only able to mitigate this situation. ALhough, the iPhone 3gs is being launched on many markets, it remains a very attractive object not only in France but internationally.

La Poste provides to diversify in the area of the mobile telephony

According to ”les Echos”, ”La Poste” Group, a limited company since March 1st, expects to diversify into the field of mobile telephony with its own brand launched within a year. This should be a distribution that is based on the postal network with 17 000 relay in France. In additoon, the group set a target of 1.5 to 2 million customers in three or four years.

The project is called Chrome internally and should be presented at the next Board of Diectorrs of the Group. It will be held on March 11. If that’s validated, the tender will be launched later to find a partner to lease the network and sign an agreement by next September.

In addition, this new activity would be a new source of revenue for La Poste in order to balance the decline in mail (it is estimated that 30% deline in volumes delivered between 2008 and 2015), this applies to the meter to the gas supplier Butagaz and for the installation of ”TNT” for indiituals.

Finally, it is worth to remember that some banksalready offer mobile packages in addition to their normal banking services. In case this is not a MVNO, strictly speaking, banks still rely on a virtual operator in which they are shareholders.
